The Muses Behind The Music
In this project I took nine styles of music and created mythical beings—muses—for each style that captured the spirit, sound, aesthetic, and historical context of the music.
The final project was a narrated motion graphics video and a book with descriptions and still images from the video.
Syd expresses psychedelic rock through bright rainbow colours and a free-flowing feel.
Dissolvo expresses post-punk through thick makeup, an energy dome hat, and a sense of space for free creative expression.
Synthatus expresses synthpop through space age electronics, drum machines and keytars, and cathode ray tube television set distortion.
Anti Hero expresses grunge through he rainy city of Seattle, ripped jeans, large guitar amplifiers, and a return to raw rock’n’roll aesthetic.
Nebula expresses shoegaze through fuzzy blurry distorted imagery that obscures the vocalist’s face the way the music obscures their voice.
Brain Dance expresses IDM through glitchy images and a mind for something beyond the standard dance thump.
Bleep Bloop expresses chiptune and 8-bit nostalgia through pixel art and a Nintendo Gameboy.
Trans Am expresses synthwave through a retro-futuristic “tron-scape” and neon colours.
Hypnagogia expresses chillwave through an easy- going sunny beach aesthetic crossed with nostalgia expressed through Kodak film photography.
