Our Climate Journey
Our Climate Journey is a website that aims to help disseminate information about climate change to Canadians from a non-judgemental perspective—meeting people where they are—while helping individuals create actionable plans to de-carbonize their lifestyles. The focus towards Canadians as the target user demographic is because Canadians statistically have very high per capita carbon footprints when compared to the rest of the world while also having a statistically higher amount of agency to do something about it.
As a co-creator of Our Climate Journey, I’ve been working as the graphic / web designer (the branding, illustrations, infographics, layouts), web developer, ux designer, seo, and social media graphics designer including motion graphics.
Web Development / UX
The user experience is built around the idea of taking a journey towards a climate friendly lifestyle. I coded an interactive train track map menu in javascript using the p5.js library in order to help guide the user along their journey.
During initial user testing, it became evident that different users would benefit from the site more if they were able to more easily and obviously start at different parts of the journey depending on personal relevance. To do this, we added more links along with questionnaires to the homepage to guide users to the most suitable place in the website.
We went with the idea of the treefrog for our branding. We chose the treefrog because it’s playful and cute, breaking up what is often urgent and serious information content. The treefrog brings a connection to the natural world and is also one of thousands of species endangered by the heating of the planet.

Many illustrations were created for this website in order to break up what could have been a very text heavy website.
Illustrations include banners for the top of each page, many frogs, and more. All illustrations are vector graphics made in Adobe Illustrator.
